Riddle and the NaMoPaiMo experience

Big sigh of relief today, Riddle is completed, photographed, and submitted as finished! I loved the NaMoPaiMo experience, especially having model eye candy to look at every day. I learned so much, and may try another medium in the future (now that I've seen pros and cons of different ones).

The biggest two lessons this Riddle taught me were;
1) I need a new camera! These pictures were taken in different lighting, first one mid day light outside, the second inside with artificial lights. Still neither is as crisp or true to color as I would like. What do my fellow hobbyists use?

2) Reference EVERYTHING! Unlike with ----, I painted chestnuts on Riddle. As it turns out, it is near impossible to find a clear picture with the location of hind leg chestnuts. I gave up and painted them on, above the knee....

Don't worry I moved it (and blended better lol)

Mostly this group has inspired me to try new things and keep improving my skills. Airen Chandler, for one, has made me want to try a fantasy pony someday.

She made this incredible Pegasus Peacock using mixed media, including  Pearl-ex and gel pens. The detail in those wing feathers is amazing, isn't it? This sparked an idea of a different type of peacock pony :)

Then others are amazing in realistic colors. Jami Worms did an amazing chestnut for the event. I adore how bright and healthy this model's "coat" looks.

She used acrylics, pastels, and colored pencil. The model is a portrait of a horse called Miss Reba. I can't help but break NaMoPaiMo rules and compare her to my own Riddle. Room for improvement from me!

I've also seen lots of beautifully done dapples, grey and otherwise. In particular this handsome grey by Lynette Sayers caught my eye. Maybe soon I'll have to bite the bullet and give it a try :)

This model also has a full set of tack, and I promise the tack is just as impressive!

With only 4 days to go, I wish best of luck to artists still working. You can do it! Next time I'll have some new models to talk about, bodies!
