Not too long ago, when I did mymini projects, I also got a few lengths of braid together to start on a project I'm super excited about, building my first arabian costume!
I started with two pieces, one for the halter, and two for the breastcollar (one day a saddle, but a presentation set is a start at least). I sewed the breastcollar braids together side by side, to make a thicker piece.
Then I cut the long double braid in half, wrapped two ends together and added tassels, checking the fit on my Rhapsody in Black, Fancy. I'm also using white floss to make a sort of tie closure on the collar, for easy use.
As it turned out, the tassels were a bit long, so then came some tough trimming (right side trimmed, left not). Remember this is still a tough trim, not necessarily the final length.
With that well started, I then switched my attention to the halter. First checking for fit (white floss as temp nose piece teehee)
Then matching tassels there :)
All this managed to happen in two nights, but things have stalled for the moment. Next I need the decorations for on the braid of the halter and collar. I've tried making pom-poms and cowries, but aren't quite happy with the results. Tonight I'll give things another go. But if it doesn't go well I may stitch another saddle pad, or I found an interesting cavalletti raiser I like (instead of the block that got squished).
